And the Winner is............................

After last years tight finish, which was won by Helmet in a vote off, the 2010 race for Le Maillott Jaune was something of a procession. The combination of age, babies and a lack of funds meant there were not as many gathering as in years gone by, and our sojourns were limited as well. These have always proved the most fertile grounds for idiocy and the like, so anyone who put in a proper shift on one, or possibly two, was going to be hard to overtake. Which is, what in effect happened. A memorable outing around Bradford, combined with a stellar effort in Dusseldorf, saw this member win at a canter. In fact he hasn't scored a single point since April, but no one else really got close. So put your hands together for a first time winner, as we crown Le Grande Buffoon 2010 as..................................

TRIGGER!!!!!!

The last couple of months have seen little movement. John the Don gets 8 points for being John the Don. Garreeeeee earned himself a late 4 pointer for insisting that his favourite Leeds United player of the late seventies was not Arthur Graham, but that well known spiv Arthur Daley. Shouty picked up a four pointer for managing to get whacked on the bonce by a parking barrier at InnitWorld. And that is about it. The final standings are thus;
  1. Trigger 50 points
  2. Child Catcher 28 points
  3. Euro Bri 26 points
  4. El Grande Queso 21 points
  5. Crespo 15 points
  6. Shouty 15 points
  7. John the Don 11 points
  8. Funky Messiah 10 points
  9. Gareeeeeee 8 points
  10. Big JohnnyM 6 points
  11. Tony Helmet 4 points
  12. Sprocket 3 points
  13. Dr Shotgun 3 points
  14. Mikey D 3 Points
  15. Dessi 2 points
  16. San 1 Point
  17. Major 1 point
So from today the slate is wiped clean, and the race is on for the 2011 Yellow Jersey winner. The points system seems to be holding up quite well, so we shall retain it with no tinkering. A few nights out are planned between now and Chrimbo, so it shouldn't be too long before we see some early scores on the doors. The bookies make young Child Catcher a slight early favourite, but a soon to be solvent Shouty should prove to be a threat. The last two winners are new/about to be new fathers, which has lengthened their odds considerably, especially in the case of Trigger, has been tagged and put on a very short leash. Helmet is always but a Bender away from a good score, but is a bit mellower than he was in his prime. I expect him to be off the pace, though a trip to the Oktoberfest in the early Autumn should see him contend. Then there is my good self, Fromagio and Crespo, who always seem to flirt with lead, but manage to just avoid capturing the crown. Remember. Points can be scored at any time, so be vigilant. Once again all nominations will be considered, and be scored accordingly by a panel of peers.

Previous Winners

2009- Tony Helmet

2008-
Shouty Paul

2007- The Funky Messiah

2006-

It's All so Quiet

This is the first Buffoon update in quite a while, and with good reason. There ain't been none going down. The reasons? A Quintet of heavy weight muppets have recently been saddled with a heap of responsibility that was bound to curtail their idiot tendencies. Helmet and Crespo have recently been the recipient of beautiful baby girls. Along side this, Trigger, Mad Ad and Funky have imminent arrivals of their own. As you can see, that's a lot of stupidity that's been side lined. Combine this with Shoutys continued lack of funds, and we are currently faced with the biggest Buffoon drought since records began. Funky has earned himself a ten pointer, that cannot be fully reported at the moment, but this maximum score has come far too late in the day to make any real impact, as the race draws to a close at the end of October, Crespo also scored a brace for thinking Tiverton was twinned with Wilsden, but with Triggers huge advantage from his German exploits, it appears the race is all but over.....

Substitue Stupidity

I am returned in one piece from the Lake District, whence I undertook some Bendering with me old muckers Queso, Gster and Malky. I trundled up to the Villager to meet up with them, and catch the early part of the footie, when i got too wondering "Why have they got in touch with me, out of the blue?" I haven't seen the Gster for nearly a year, and I hadn't clapped eyes on Mal for a good two and a half. Then the penny dropped. The scoundrels are down a man, and need a fella to keep the room price down! Of course when I brought this little matter up, I was met with a furtive glance from each, and then informed, after a pregnant pause, that I was being daft, and I was down to go from the off. I remained sceptical, but the sun was out, I had money in my pocket, and a thirst for beer, so I let the matter drop......

Until we checked into our hotel, which was booked in the names of Kent, Dodsworth, Chambers and Stoney! I was a substitute! Still I don't blame them, as I rarely say no to a piss up anyway. The evening was very pleasant. I was a little unused to be out with a gang of golfers, but they were all good company, and it was grand to be among the youngest again. Until we went to the local night club, at which point I felt like a hundred year old geezer again. Malky was great value, the boy owned that dance floor and the evening passed without buffoonery till we left the joint. Queso wanted to give me points for jumping butt naked into Lake Windermere, even though it was his idea in the first place, and he was all for it, before his vagina over ruled his head. But he didn't stay idiot free for long, as he earned himself a seven point haul. He thinks it was harsh, but just read what he got up to and make up your own mind.

As you may, or may not know, Bowness is not that big, so we decided to walk back to our hotel, which was a good 800 metres or so from the club we had just left. After about 10 paces, our resident grand fromage, took a turn up the hill. "It's this way!" he announced. The three of us pointed out to him that we were no where near our turn, too which we were issued a volley of insults, calling into question our mental capabilities, sexual orientation and physical attributes. "Tell you what it is," he opined finally "you can all suck my dick when I am back in my room, with my feet up after you have been wandering the streets for two hours!" as he trudged off up a sparsely populated hill. Malky thought we should go after him, but me and Gster agreed that it was the only way he would learn. Before I continue this tale of Tom foolery, I best mention that our digs were literally ten metres off the main drag, so that if you didn't pass it almost immediately it would indicate that one was going the wrong way. Not our kinky haired hero. He tromped up a hill to the very top, before he finally accepted the error of his ways. Alas, he then looked down the hill he would have to now descend, didn't fancy it, and decided that another road, that he had never been along before, was an obvious short cut, and proceeded to get himself even more lost. He confesses at point, having to lay down for a rest, and of vainly calling out our names, in hope of rescue. After this only he shall ever know what, or even where he got to, but suffice to say, he finally pitched up at our accommodation nearly two and a half hours after we had arrived. But that is still not the end of it. He burst into our rooms, and started in on one how it was all our fault, we never should have left, and that he was advertising for new friends, and finally that we were not to bother entering an application. It was a valiant effort to mask his own idiocy, but only succeeded in earning himself extra points.

I joined in on the stupidity the next morning, earning three points for a serious case of foot in mouth. But before I action these points onto the 2010 standings, there is another big scoring effort, registered the Saturday before on Crespo's head wetting shindig. Step forward Shouty, for another seven point haul. After a night on the lash in Shipley, and after that Bingley, it came time for the lad to get himself a pizza and a cab home. But for some reason known only to himself, he decided to get out of his cab a mile away from home, and take a short cut through the woods. It was in these woods that he took a wrong turn, stumbled, and landed head first in a thicket of stinging nettles. This left him stung from top to bottom, in a forest, gently sobbing as he ate what was left of his pizza pie. Watch this one, he can never truly be ruled out of contention...

PS. Nearly forgot this one. I have been reliably informed that Big JohnnyM has entered the fray, after getting lost in his hotel in Ibiza, dressed in only his boxer shorts and vest. Combine this with his attempt to piss in his closet, and you get six points.

Summer Stupidity

The sun has finally come out, and as the temperature goes up, so follows the idiocy. Firstly a catch up from FA Cup final day. Not a lot went down, but Helmet earned himself three points for losing £70 on the bus on the way into town. He had too wait outside Spoons for me to arrive, and for his missus to fetch him some replacement dosh, of which she was not impressed. I also reaped a point for failing to grasp Helmets inept "May the Fourth be with you" joke.

Fast forward to England's first game of the World Cup. After sinking a load of lager, we decided to chase them down with a load of Jaegermeisters. This resulted in me doing something that I have not done in decades. I went home and pissed all over the landing. The Elster was not impressed, let me tell you, and the only thing that stops me scoring the maximum points was that it wasn't in my wardrobe, bed or even worse, our lasses hair. I fully accept the six points that have been agreed. These can combined with the couple of points I earned for purchasing a pack of boxer shorts, that were on sale, with out checking the labels, or colour. I got them home, to find I had bought a pair of lime green, spandex shorts, that as the picture below reveal, are not very flattering. Another point. This got me worried, that with the demise of the usual suspects, that I may yet catch Trigger, and have to award myself the Maillott Jaune of 2010. But more stupidity was afoot, that was not yet known, but has since been brought to my attention.

The Favelas of Rio. The townships of Soweto. The projects of the Bronx. These well documented crime zones are joined in infamy with the wild borough of Gilstead. Why? According to the Child Catcher, it was here that he was mugged by a ribald gang of ragamuffins, who relieved him of his wallet, phone, and keys, and left him nursing a few bruises. Well that is his side of the tale, so anything may well have happened, as he was too arsed to remember exactly what happened. Queso thought this may have been worthy of a perfect "10" but considering what he did next, it was agreed that seven was to be awarded. "What Happened next?" I hear you wonder. Well the young fella and Queso went down to Birmingham on some business, and after a hard days graft decided to let down their hair. After several sherberts, Charlie staggered up to the bar, and ordered the largest cocktail that they served, and slopped it all over his shirt. This meant, combined with being inebriated, he was refused entry to the night club they were after visiting. Figuring he needed to sort himself out, he went in search of a "livener" and approached the first chap of colour he came across. This chap told him he could sort him out with what he wanted, and the Catcher handed over a crisp £20 note to this complete stranger, who proceeded to place cash in his pocket, and scarper off down the road, at a rapid rate of knots. This alone may not have scored him the max, but the fact he tried to palm some of the blame off onto Queso earns him "dix points." Perhaps the title is not a forgone conclusion after all....

Buffoon Update

I was hoping to do an update on the race for Le Maillot Jaune 2010, which is heating up nicely by the way, but I have just clocked the time, and do not have enough time to get it caught up. I am finishing work early tomorrow, and will catch up on all the nonsense, of which there is a bit, then.

Bender Time

There isn't as many of us originally hoped, but it is the Cup Final today, and tradition demands a Bender. Myself and the Helmet are meeting up within the next couple of hours, and are making our way to a new sports bar in Wakefield, where we will be hooking up with Sprocket, Big JohnnyM, Dr Shotgun, Plus One and Dessi. The Boy Dazzler will be making himself available as soon as work commitments allow. The plan later is to head back to Saltaire for a few sherberts, Mercenary will be joining the festivities at this point. I was hoping to update the days shenanigans via twitter and this blog, but those plans have been scuppered, as I left my phone at the bottom of the stairs last night, and then promptly stood on it, rendering it completely and utterly useless. Buffoon point to the Brister. Which brings me nicely on to another score, as the current title holder finally got off the mark last week. Helmet managed to run out of petrol, 800 metre from the pub, and had to jog on to make last orders. I bet it was the first exercise he has taken in many a moon. So below are the latest standings, although if history is anything to go by, I will be updating again tomorrow.

Updated Buffoon Standings

  1. Trigger 50 points

Buffoon 2010: Update

Only a small adjustment, but it does give me time too tidy up the league table, of which I made a bit of an arse of last time. I went out for a few beers with Crespo over the weekend, and there is a two point addition to his total, after he confessed to suffering a "Munich Incident" in Dusseldorf. He tried to keep it quiet, but after getting a few ales down him the truth came out. The table below now looks thus:

Updated Buffoon Standings

  1. Trigger 50 points
  2. El Grande Queso 14 points
  3. Euro Bri 13 points
  4. Crespo 13 points
  5. Child Catcher 11 points
  6. Gareeeeeee 4 points
  7. Sprocket 3 points
  8. Dr Shotgun 3 points
  9. Mikey D 3 Points
  10. John the Don 3 points
  11. Shouty 3 points
  12. Dessi 2 points
  13. San 1 Point
  14. Major 1 point
As you can see, it has made minimal impact on the tables, but they could prove crucial come October. Still, brother Trigger will take a lot of catching...

Le Grand Buffoon 2010

There is nothing like a foreign jaunt to stimulate the Buffoon of the year standings, and our trip to Dusseldorf was no different. I am going to break the scoring down by member, with their points total. Forgive me for being vague on a couple of exploits, but you will get the gist of what went on.

Trigger
Many thought Helmets on man mission in Edinburgh would take some beating, but Trigger beats it all ends up. First up, the Pikey incident, which was uncovered on the trip down. I cannot elaborate too much on this, but it involved a deal to good to be true, and was deemed by the panel to be worth 10 points. Then we have the piss tip. As travellers around Germany are aware, quite a few establishments have a toilet attendant, whom you usually give a 20 to 50 cent tip for keeping the bog clean. Trigger decided to go all flash on us, and tipped this particular cleaner €20, or £18 for a piss. Luckily Queso was at hand to get it back, but still worth at least 5 points. Then there is the hotel incident, which was agreed weighed in with a whopping 25 points. As you would imagine, on his reappearance come Sunday, he was ever so slightly sheepish, at steered clear of stupidity for the remainder of the trip. Total-40 points

Euro Bri
I may as well get my own idiocy over and done with. My main score was for doing a Mexican wave just as a bartender walked past with a drinks laden tray, I cannot really argue with the three points bestowed on me. I also scored another for texting Sprocket, telling him to get out of bed, even though he was next too me in a pub. Texted the wrong guy, 1 point. I am not sure why I was awarded the other two I was informed of, but considering the state I got into on a couple of occasions, I am more than happy to let them stand. Total-5 points

Sprocket
His purple ear, earned after a grappling session with dessi (see below) was worthy of a score, and his vinegar shot also racks up a point. Apart from that I am struggling to think of much. Oh yeah, I remember his rose trick now. Defiantly worth another score. Total-3points

Dessi
A first timer, and the fact is he wasn't even supposed to be out with us, but proved to be a worthy addition. Scores like Sprocket, for wrestling like school kids, and also, infamously, did the dreaded starfish shot. Can't really let him off with out a score. My feeling is, now that he knows us, and will be more at ease, that he could score well on our next sojourn. Total-2 points

Dr Shotgun
Without the inestimable Doctor, we would probably still be stranded somewhere in North West Germany, his level head twice retrieving seemingly lost causes. But he still was not immune from moments slackness. My personal favourite was when he asked if 1860 Munich were at home, even though we were in Dusseldorf, on our way to the stadium. He couldn't quite grasp the Koln was Cologne theory either. He did score a third pint, but for what I can't quite remember. Total-3 points

Crespo
A sensible-ish weekend from our lanky legend. Going back to a house party, and having a shit, only to find there was but a piece of bog roll is about the only incident that springs readily too mind. I am sure there is at least another, so if anybody can remember it, please let me know. Total- 1 point

King of the Pixies
Sandro took some time to shake off the first nights shenanigans, and then was felled by a Shouty induced headache. He did turn it around, but I would be hard pressed to think of him scoring a point. Maybe it was all those pork sarnies kept him on the straight and narrow. Total-Nul points

Shouty
He was starting to accrue a fair haul. There was the numerous condiment shots he created and supped. The Scotsman he pissed off. The Sprocket incident, which he just wouldn't let lie. It revolved around a joke he made about his trouble and strife, for which KC apologised, only for Shouty to bring it up, again, five minutes later. The dollop of ketchuped, dispensed on his head, as he lay sparked out on a table. But these were all wiped from the slate as part of the deal to get him to undertake the exploit reported below. That of course means he can only be scored for the stunt he pulled when he got home. He turned up for work, even though he had booked it off. An unbelievable solitary score. Total- 1 point

John the Don
He didn't actually go, but I have no doubt he did something stupid, some where. Total- 1 point

El Grande Queso
A good haul from the Queso. First up, the Shouty shooter of mustard he swigged. He claimed to pulled a sleight of hand, but as the video below shows, whatever he knocked back was definitely containing a selection of condiments (even though he may have spit it back into his beer, it went in his gob). Two points for trying to dodge one. Another couple for ringing the Elster, at 8 o'clock in the morning, to tell her she was a good egg, and announce himself as drinking champion of Europe. It's just as well our lass is used to stupid phone calls in the small hours. He scored another for some misdemeanour that has slipped my mind. Total- 5 points

Updated Buffoon Standings

  1. Trigger 50 points
  2. Child Catcher 11 points
  3. El Grande Queso 14 points
  4. Euro Bri 13 points
  5. Crespo 11 points
  6. El Grande Queso 9 points
  7. Euro Bri 8 points
  8. Gareeeeeee 4 points
  9. Sprocket 3 points

  11. Mikey D 3 Points
  12. John the Don 3 points

Ein episches Abenteuer

An epic adventure indeed. It took more than an erupting volcano to prevent our mission from occurring, and a contingency plan was formed. Sprocket, by some strange coincidence, was already stranded in Dusseldorf, and two of our party were stuck in work, so it was seven of us who boarded a VW transporter in Clayton, and headed off on a 557 mile trek to Dusseldorf. The trip down was pretty incident free, Sandro's mood swings from complete depression, to unbelievable optimism, kept every one's spirits up, until we found out that Queso's supposed European satnav, wasn't. Luckily I had printed off our route from Google maps, which did the job, but as we neared our destination, it became complicated. Once again, we had a lucky break, as I finally figured out how too use the GPS maps on my dog and bone. We arrived, checked in, met Sprocket and his mate, and took off around the Aldstadt, drinking loads of Alt and Killepitsch, of which I never heard of, but you can follow this link to learn more. After loads of both of these drinks, apart from the good Dr Shotgun (thankfully as it transpired) we KC took us too a place that did the best pork sarnies in the world. Sandro was so impressed he ate two, and even contemplated a third (he said he didn't want to seem greedy) In fact over our three day stay, he consumed a grand total of nine, and grew a curly tail. The other highlight of the evening was Shouty laying claim to drinking champion of Europe, after he destroyed a Germ,an chap foolish enough to cross swords with him. But things were about to take change for the worse, and one member was too find himself burdened with a whooping 25 Buffoon points ( this doesn't include the ten he got on the journey for telling us about his pikey trick) I am not allowed to fully relay the full ins and out's of what occurred. All I can say is that involved a wet bed, police and us looking for new accommodation the next morning. Shotguns dislike of both Alt and Killepitsch came in handy, as he was the only one capable of blowing clear, and being able to drive.

So the next day commenced with us in search of a new home, and it was not long before the first buffoon points were earned. We decided to try our luck in Cologne, and headed off in the direction of the Autobahn. The problem was that the good Doctor couldn't quite manage to get his head around the fact that in German, Cologne is in fact "Köln" After driving around aimlessly, I took an executive decision, and we headed back to Dusseldorf. The main reason was that the major was on his way, 1860 were playing there on Sunday, and Sprocket and Dessi had managed to avoid detection at our previous hotel. We would have spent the whole weekend shuttling back and forth, so as we crossed the Rhine back into town, I spotted a Holiday Inn, and we booked ourselves a trio of rooms. So after a small siesta, we were off again. Shotgun stayed in the hotel, enjoying the hospitality of some political party, if memory serves Die Liberlans, and Shouty roused me to go and meet up with Sandro and Queso. First though, I threw up most of the previous nights excesses, and tried to rouse Crespo who was having none of it. Then it was off to meet up at the Red Lounge in Carlsplatz. It was here we found Steve and San enjoying a few Kolschs in tranquil surroundings, which were soon destroyed by decibel charged Shouty, which gave San a headache. We also scored Dessi and Sprcokets first points of the trip, after their beer mat fight descended into a wrestling match, which lead too KC sporting a big fat purple ear.

The rest of the afternoon, and early evening was to be dominated by the Shoutster. We went to an Irish bar to watch the Manchester derby, hooking up with KC and Dessi, plus a freshly arrived Major. Th game was pretty poor, so the Right Honourable decided to start doing shots of vinegar. Then shots of vinegar with Ketchup. The Major, Sprocket and even El Grande Queso took part in knocking back his bevy of concotions. But with out a doubt the worst was his "starfish" It was a bit of lager, with vinegar, two types of mustard, a pinch of salt, pepper and lime, with a dollop of HP sauce. It looked like a turd floating in piss, and even Shouty looked at doubtfully. But not Dessi, who polished it off in one go. At this point Crespo made a PA, just as a confused Queso decided he best take a time out. I found him wandering around aimlessly, and pointed him towards a taxi rank. I my self decided a walk along the river back to our base would be good for the head, although it took me a while, as I got proper lost. After a power snooze, and a shower, I regrouped with Shotgun and Crespo, and went off in search of Shouty.

And he was in fine form when we found him. He had fallen out with Sprocket, and kept making up with him, before falling out with him again. I have video evidence of the state he was in, but he has asked I not post it. Finally he snapped out of it, and started lecturing Shotgun on how brilliant English culture was, and how shit Italian culture was. He even accused Crespo of being to stupid to invent the wheel. Major was ready to watch his beloved Spurs, so once again it was back to O'Reillys. Once inside, Shouty set about a group of Scots at the bar, telling them they were small folk, from a small country, and then telling a bunch of Londoners, that all they did was "Give it all that" and couldn't drink like a northerner, particularly the drinking champion of Europe, before going outside and passing out. It was on e of these two groups that we suspect of committing the Ketchup incident. The game finished, and we decided to get some grub, and hook up with San and Steve at, you guessed it, the world famous pork sandwich shop. Me and Shotgun were first to finish, so went collect Shouty, who was just beginning to come around. It was then that we noticed he was covered in Tomato Sauce, a big dollop was on his head, and he had gotten it all over his hands and arms. We cleaned him up and headed for the Red Lounge.

Now at this point you may be wondering why the Shoutster has not gained any buffoon points Well it is down to what happened next. Now he was still well plastered, only having been awake for about an hour. The Major, who was well greased by this point, got in a yard of Jagermeister, which a few ducked out of, which lead to Shouty knocking back about four of them. This lead to somebody daring him to drink a yard, ie 10 shots, of Killepitsch. He wouldn't agree at first, and as part of our mission to get him to do it, we waved all points scored up to then, and promised to get him back to the hotel. He agreed. I know a few of you have probably seen the video clip on Facebook, and I will post it on here tonight, KC is e-mailing me it when he gets in from work. At first he seemed to wear it well, but after half an hour he was destroyed. We took him for a coffee, but it had no effect. At on point he looked at Queso, told him he loved him, and tears trickled down his cheek. The next minute he was trying to take a leak on a busy street. The effort to get him home was immense, and not without it's fair share of incidents. Steve's ploy was to walk ahead, and he would follow, but this proved flawed, as we turned around to see him spark out on the floor surrounded by policemen. Once again we got him on his feet and moving, this time aided by Sandro, who appeared from nowhere. By now he was hitting the deck every five metres. The funniest one was when he stumbled, and put his hands on a car that was stopped at a red light. The panicked driver threw it into reverse, and once again tarmac beckoned. Finally we got him into his hotel room, and I left him in the recovery position. The it was off back down town.

And an excellent night it was, at our favourite after hours spot, Bannerman 6. The music ranged from old school house tunes too, crazy German folk songs, our favourite can be seen in the post below. Many new German friends were made, and the Kolsch was ice cold. Sprocket garnered some more points for his foolish rose trick, and Sandro ate some more pork sandwiches. The next day was football day, and the weather was cracking. I will do a full report later under an "Away days" thread, hopefully tomorrow. Shotgun scored another point, as he kept asking if Munich were at home, even though we were in Dusseldorf. After the game we met up with Sandro and Steve, who watched Arsenal go down to Wigan, which cheered up the Major no end, and a reprieved Trigger, who had kissed and made up with Queso. The rest of the afternoon was spent drinking lager and eating schnitzel by the banks of the Rhine, on a lovely sunny afternoon. Sunday night was spent, where else, at the Bannerman 6, after a steak dinner. Killepitsch and kolsch was the order of the day, and we stayed out till the club shut. The bouncer, Ludwig, was not to be messed with, although he did send us onto another club that was still open. Alas, only me, Shouty and Queso made it, Crespo and Dessi blagged their way into a house party. Crespo scored his points here. As soon as he got there, he went for a dump, used up all the toilet paper and passed out on the sofa. Shouty and Queso also earned a point each for emptying the dance floor in a Turkish bar, with a heroic display of pissed up dad dancing. They just didn't empty the dance floor. They emptied the whole building, so it was off to another seedy bar, where a persistent prostitute got the full Brister. She was a proper Munter, pissed and wouldn't leave me alone. So I finally snapped, told her "I didn't want to fuck her ten minutes ago, now or in another ten minutes, here is two euros now FUCK OFF and leave me alone!" It worked. She ended up blowing off some other dude in the toilet. The final points of the trip though were scored by Queso. At around eight o'clock in the morning, I'd done enough so chipped. This left him and Shouty, who left about 30 minutes later. Shouty passed out in the cab, leaving the Fromage as last man standing. He decided to call me up, and big him self up as the new champion drinker of Europe. Of course this didn't mean he wasn't wankered, and instead of me rang up the Elster, who was less than impressed by his marathon drinking feat, or the fact he called her a "Good Egg" several times.

The trip home was fairly incident free, but long. Over elven hours long. We cheered ourselves up with the Sandro song, but as we finally got to the M62, even this comedy gem was wearing thin. Would I do it again? You bet your boots I would, although if we are to do another road trip, it won't all be done in one go. I have tried to recap all the buffoonery I can remember, and you may well see an update at a later date, if other tales are recounted. In fact I can think of a few, but it is nearly time for five a side, so i shall wrap this up now. When I get into tonight, or tomorrow after work I will update "Le Grande Buffoon" standings, and post some videos, especially the one of Shouty's drinking feat. I shall post the link to the smugmug gallery.

A Very Good Friday

So that's the first bank holiday of the year over and done with, and on Friday we took off on the first proper Bender of the year. A most excellent turnout, and pretty much everything went to plan, I think we just about made to all the dive bars, only missing the Commercial, before ending up throwing shapes in Lloyds, and having a night cap in Mingles. Not all of us made the course, but buffoonery was at a premium, apart from a couple of incidents. This doesn't mean there wasn't any stupidity on show, it was on the whole just the normal drunken japery. The two exceptions involved the Child Catcher, who was taken in by my Ronaldinho April first post, asking how much they had paid for him. One point to the youngster. But he did score an agreed three points, along with El Grande Queso, for an unseemly wrestling match outside the Boy and Barrell. The Catcher had been getting a bit uppity for a spell, and the Queso responded by dunking his mobile phone into his pint. The lad didn't look best pleased. After an hour or so of bickering, Stevie offered to fix it. When the Catcher handed over his phone, and yes you could see this coming a mile off, it was rapidly dispensed back into his pint. Result, melee in street. Queso thinks three points are harsh, but it has been passed. Crespo said it was most embarrassing, and that the pair off them were rolling around like a couple of randy rent boys.

That was the main incident of the evening, special mention goes out to the Boy Dazzler, who after a long absence, put in a n epic effort, and along with Helmet, went to work the next day, even though they had their last beer at around four o'clock in the morning. We salute you. And I personally would like to also salute the pubs of Bradford. After months of slagging the city centre off, we had a blinding night, I would recommend anybody visiting the place to eshew the faceless corporate bars around the "West End" and keep it real round the old school saloons of Bradford town. Next up, and it is now only 9 days and counting, Germany. A fine state of affairs indeed.

Buffoon Update

A quick addition too the previous "Grande Buffoon" post. Crespo left his car at the Villager the other weekend, and when he showed up to getr it on Sunday morning, found himself parked in. gutted he rang up Andy, the land lord to find out the phone number of the van owner, so he could get him too move it. Andy was only to willing to oblige, pointing out that the number was written down the side of the works van he was staring at. Rack up one point for the Kev-meister.

Le Grande Buffoon 2010

Things got a little busy a few weeks ago, but things kind of cooled off for a spell. Shouty picked himself up a point for texting out his new mobile number, without saying who it was from.... This weekend Crespo was in dumb blond mode. Yes, I scored a point, rather harshly, when I miss heard something Patty said. He told us he couldn't make our Good Friday Bender, because he was off to the boat race. I thought he said "Motor race" and asked who was racing. Crespo was all over me on that one, and with Helmet and Queso to hand to back him up, I resigned myself to my score. But then our lanky hero, still flush at catching me out, turned to Patty and asked, straight faced "So where the race then?" Patty looked at me, and then Kev, before answering "London." Deuce, as they say in tennis, and a score chalked up for Crespo. But all this pales, apparently, in comparison to a rumoured ten pointer by a squad member. It happened a couple of weeks back, but my sources tell me it is a nailed on ten pointer, a veritable "Buffoon" rating. The person who it involves, will make a great impact on the race for the Maillot Jaune 2010. Add the upcoming Bender, along with our imminent sojourn to Dusseldorf, and it could be a golden month in the annals of stupidity.

A Bit Late

I nearly forgot to post this update, from the game last week. It concerns an update that was missed to the race for Le Maillott Jaune 2010. It has been brought to my attention that brother Queso earned himself a brace the other week, when he took a drunken stumble out the door of the Villager. Graham happened to witness his fall, and after watching him struggle to get to his feet, went to his aid. He picked him up and passed him drink commenting "That at least you didn't spill any!" to which Queso looked at him and said"Didn't fooking want it anyway", and threw it away, a double has been awarded. I also earned a a point last week at the City match, when after watching one punt too many stood up and shouted "I have had enough of this shite, I am off to the pub! Who is with me?" Of course no one was, and I was forced to trudge off to the pub on my own. I would have looked more stupid if I had stayed. The day is documented on my gallery site here. I have just got a new camera, and decided to take it for a test run. It is the usual assortment of pics taken in the pub, but what the hell, I haven't used my site for ages.

All Change at the Top

Buffoonery Ahoy! You would have figured as we were out for brother Crespo's birthday, it may have been him who was at the centre of the points scoring, but it was the Bingley brigade who upped the ante. First up the Child Catcher. A hard one to score, as he is more annoying than stupid, and one of these days he is going to catch a proper beating. He even managed to wind me up, breaking the goldenest of golden rules by fucking around with my beer. I issued a severe reprimand, and it made it quite clear he was walking a fine line. But the nearest he came to a slap, was from Tony Helemt, who after a rough day at the office, came into the pub to let off a little steam, and blow the head off a cold one. The fact he was still wearing a tie proved to much for our young pest, and he wouldn't leave it alone. You could see the steam start to build up in Tony's head, and at one pint the Cathcer was a cats cock hair from getting strangled. Even his dad had to tell him to calm it down. He just doesn't learn, and maybe it's a good old fashion kicking he needs. I fear a good one is immanent. Three points.

Next up is the Grande Queso, and at the heart of his points tally, yet again. lies the Child Catcher. The youngster managed to piss off the owner of the City Vaults, he was pestering his insanely young piece of ass, but instead of tossing his backside out the door, told him he wasn't to be served for an hour, whilst he sobered up a bit. Not knowing the full tale, Queso burst into action. With no chunks of steak at hand to wave around, he instead produced his affiliation card, shouting loudly that he was an off duty CID detective, and that he was calling round the boy's to shut the place down. It was pretty funny that the bar manager took him so seriously, and entered into discussions, but when he uttered the immortal "Don't you know who I am?" points were required. He also lost his phone on the way home, a guaranteed point, bringing his total up to three.

But there was only one truly star turn. He even earned himself a new Bender Squad handle. No longer is he to be known as Maffy, but from this day hence he will be referred to as Trigger. Not once, not twice. Not even thrice. But time and again he got the Mercenary name wrong, apparently confusing him for some chap called Nick, who lives in New Zealand, and that he hasn't seen the best part of five years. But the Mercenary was not alone. John the Don, one of the most recognisable faces in the Greater Wilsden area, was re-christened Peter. When his foible was pointed out, he looked John straight in the eye, and said "Sorry Pete." But what was he still doing out? He had been redecorating his house, unplugged the telly and the computer to wall paper, when he decided to nip out for an hour. That was at two in the afternoon. When he staggered out of the Vaults at elevenish, he was shit faced. For the time in between, his mobile was under constant bombardment from his M.R.S., who was sat at home, alone, with no TV or Internet. She may well have been sat in the dark. All I know, is that she was mondo pissed. So what did Trigger do when he got outside the Vaults? On the realisation that he had no money, he decided to walk home. Which from the City Centre to his doorstep comes up at just over seven miles. And he was proper wankered. Anyway, he must have covered a couple of miles, when he realised just how far it was to get home. So he had to ring up his massively irate to come and fetch him from Mannigham Lane. The only problem was that he was walking along Toller Lane, which is no where near Manningham Lane. The poor girl had to drive around a couple of the less salubrious areas of town for about an hour before she located him. I am certainly glad I wasn't him the next day. All told, I figure it was a ten point haul, if you combine everything. A classic performance.

Le Grande Buffoon 2010

A new leader has emerged, replacing yours truly. The incident took place in the Villager, after a skin full of course, and the were issued, and agreed upon by me, John the Don and the King of the Pixies. We were talking the usual tripe, when we got onto the subject of local misfit the Jesus Man, and wondered who else would qualify as a Bradford legend. The Yorkshire Ripper's name was mentioned to which Crespo piped up, "He can't be, he's from Middlesborough." If that was worth one point, his effort to justify himself were worth a definite two, when he brought up the hoax tape recordings as evidence that he was from the North-East. It appears our lanky Goodfella is the only person in the country who didn't know they were fake. Bless. Three points take him to the summit.

Le Grande Buffoon 2010

A fallow start to the Buffoon season, as since October there hasn't been much to report. But with the weather causing havoc to the weekends football fixtures, there looked to a chance for that to be rectified, as we all pitched up in the pub at one o'clock, with nothing to do but drink. That was until about tea time, when a few concerned looks were noticed by half cut fella's snatching glances at their watches. It could only mean one thing. The Evil M.R.S. were on the prowl. Queso had dumped the kids on his unsuspecting spouse, and she was making it quite clear that she wasn't having him crawl through the door hammered. Ditto Maffy, whose terrier like partner is not known for her easy going demeanour, and tolerance. He looked like he might have been ready to do battle, but he didn't have enough brass to drink himself to suitable state to take her on. Sandro slipped out soon after, tail tucked between his legs, as baby sitting duty beckoned. My last hope, Crespo also had some child minding of his own to undertake, but was in drinking mode now, and stayed for several one for the roads, before discretion got the better of valour, and he rang a taxi. So that left me with Charlie Child Catcher, and I am afraid I am too long in the tooth to get plastered with an eighteen year old who sings Leeds United songs and winds everybody up when he is arsed. So I jumped in a cab with Crespo, got a Chinese, and was passed out on the sofa for nine thirty. I should be used to it now, as it was my day off. When i have to work, every one goes out all day and night, and then sleeps it off, while I have to toil away with a hangover.

But back to the Buffoonery. With so many of us out, you figured it was only a matter of time till the floodgates opened, and John the Don got us off to a good start, bless him. Somebody asked what channel the football was on "It's on that Spanish one" said the blond bombshell. "Spanish?" I enquired. "Yeah. It's on that ESPN" he said. "But thta's an American company" I told him. " I thought it was short for Espagna!" he replied. Two points to the Don. But he had a dinner date and had to leave, and although there was general tom foolery for the remainder of the afternoon, no points were scored.

Festive Buffoonery

Christmas has always proved fertile ground for unbridled idiocy, and after me and the Child Catchers performance in Skipton, it looked like 2009 would be no different. But for some reason, it proved to be a bit of a false dawn. There hasn't been many get togethers this year, a by product of the impact of numerous members being infiltrated by the nefarious M.R.S, so opportunity has been scarce. But then came Crespo. I had bailed on our Boxing Day session, a result of far too many lunch time pints, so was not present as the Squad pretty boy undertook a few slugs of Polish Vodka, with ABV of 98%. A few moments after he had finished one, he pronounced that it would now be the opportune time to have "gay man sex." Four points to the lanky drunkard.

But returning to the lack of Tom Foolery displayed so far this year. I have indicated as too on reason there has not been as much to report, but there is one that is even more surprising. The apparent alien abduction of Tony Helmet. It is becoming quite obvious that some extra terrestrials have whisked him off to a distant galaxy, and replaced with him a more sober, responsible (although still mind blindingly loud) doppelganger. I am not alone in remarking on how un- idiot like he has been since receiving the Maillot Jaune. All I know is that they must be wondering what's hit them on planet Zorg, our whatever celestial body the original Helmet is now on. I was also becoming concerned that the the Right Honourable Shouty had joined successor in some inter planetary shenanigans, but was pleased to announce the first score for one of our previous champions. It is only a solitary point, and to the untrained will seem hars, as it is for losing his mobile phone. But for those who have had the pleasure over the last few years of Shoutys company, you will be well aware that this is an almost monthly occurrence, and is worthy of the point is garners.

There is expected to be some heavy scoring though on News Year Eve, as I will attending the annual Jannetta shindig. Present will be two former title holders, Funky and Helmet, plus perennial contender, moi, and the dark horse that is Lobon. Could get silly......

Yuletide Buffoonery?

Well the annual Bender squad Christmas shindig is now history. A decent turnout, considering the weather, the recession and the nefarious M.R.S. took off too Skipton for a day time drinking session. The fact that there had been a healthy covering of snow the night before, lent the occasion a festive feel, although it did mean that all the trains were running late, and we found ourselves twiddling our thumbs on an ice cold platform, but we eventually made our destination. Myself, Crespo, Shotgun and big JohnnyM hooked up with Helmet, the King of the Pixies, El Grande Queso and his apprentice Charlie Child Catcher in Bingers, before hooking up with Dead Eye and Mad Ad in Skipton, where we were joined a few hours latter by Shouty Shipley posse.

Enough with the roll call. Things started out steady enough, you could even say quite civilized. Queso was slightly the worse for wear, but seeing as it had been his works doooo the night before he was do reasonably well. He was still sporting his stamp from the Pig Hut, but more alarmingly he was also wearing something called a "snoob" I believe. No matter which way you look at it, it was something a forty plus captain of industry should have grown out of, and was worthy of the point that was awarded to him. Which brings us nicely onto the subject of Buffoonery. In Helmet and Shouty, we were blessed with the company of the current, and prior recipients of the Maillot Jaune, so a bit of a display was expected. And we got one. From me. A case of mistaken identity resulted in one of the finest slaps you will ever witness. My ears are still ringing. Combine that with my spinning Charlie trick that resulted in me landing on my bonce, and it was agreed that six points were well earned. It still needs some discussion, but I think the Child Catcher earned himself some. In the Narrow Boat he decided to take on a group of the biggest, burliest rugby type fellas in a singing contest. Alas, our diminutive whirlwind only really knows one song about Leeds United, and was getting the Michael well and truly ripped out of him. This lead to a physical assault on his mountainous opponents, who ended up swinging him back and forth to the tune of "Rock a Bye Baby." It was highly amusing. A provisional four pointer, although I will refer it to a wider forum. If I am informed any further nonsense, you will be the first to know.

Seeds Have Been Sown

Although not a total washout, not much was agreed, or in fact decided upon, during our supposed "summit" to iron out some cast iron rules and regulations. Meeting in a building that sells beer, whisky, vodka and other assorted inebriants, was perhaps not the greatest of ideas. It all started well enough, it was accepted that Helmet was probably the correct choice as "Le Grande Buffoon 2009" bu the current scoring mechanism was felt to be to dependant on one person, Me. Even though I am Grand Pooba for Life, I conceded a fairer system needed to be put in place. But almost immediately we were side tracked. Firstly Mikey D, on his first outing no less, scored some points. As we discussed the possibility of catching the train up to Carlisle for a City game, he piped up that we could even take our partners with us, so they could do some shopping whilst we were at the match. It seems the whole point of our little drinking club may have passed over his head. Queso was all over his comment, and after a brief vote, three points were awarded. There was no appeal forthcoming. I think I might of scored a point for spitting beer in Helmets eye after he told a funny tale, and I laughed with a mouth full of ale. And this was all before the match.

After the game it was back to the Villager, where we got down to some serious drinking. Only myself and Crespo stuck to the beer, so Queso, Mikey D, Helmet and the King of the Pixies were pissed in double quick time. I have got a feeling Helmet might have earned at least a point for losing at pool, and then somehow blaming Crespo. By this time the Mercenary had joined the ranks, and we at last made some headway. Earlier in the day, the point was made that if we carried on tossing around points like confetti for verbal faux pas, that eventually our nights out would rapidly become silent affairs, with nobdy daring to speakl. So for a slip of the tongue, such as Sandro's "My predicament is Spain" when asked his World Cup prediction, should only be worth a solitary point. The more bold shite as a statement of fact, best illustrated by Shoutys blow job tirade of a couple months back, is more of a five pointer, Gareeee's Ali Dia, stubbornness probably a three. Crespo lobbied for verbals as a separate category, and although a worthy suggestion, it is probably not necessary. At the other end of the scale, our suggestion is that ten points are the maximum score. To garner the "perfect 10" requires an act of monumental numptyness . The diesel in the water tank incident, by John the Don, was cited as the ideal example.

So to recap. We know what is worth a one point, and what is worth ten points. In between 1-10? We couldn't agree, the stumbling block was finding a median example. What is worthy of a five? After several pints an example could not be agreed upon. The Shouty example above is one I have thought of since Saturday night, and has not been been endorsed. So we have a couple of very basic ground rules laid down. I think it might be more constructive if we were to convene on a Sunday afternoon, when we tend to be a bit a less reckless on the sauce, when we know we have work the next day. The other thing that might be worth doing is a buffoon forum, a site were deeds of dumbness can be brought to light, discussed and scored. I am seeing G-Spot this Friday, and shall take guidance from the Squads resident geek.

PS Helmet raised the idea of a cup competition, which isn't a bad idea. He has been tasked with coming up with a viable system of implementing his vision. Scores to date.

On Your Marks, Get Set.....

Go! The race for Le Maillott Jaune 2010 has provisionally begun. Is say provisionally, as there is an Squad Summit due to determine once and for all a fair and transparent scoring system for all. This is in light of last years lack of a clear winner. Hopefully we will find time this upcoming weekend to sit down and iron out Constitution of buffoonery. Once it has been ratified by high ranking members of the little known Bender Squad, brothers G-Spot and Dr Shotgun have undertaken to knock up some kind of electronic forum/site, that will be used to keep tabs on the movers and shakers in the quest to be crowned Le Grand Buffoon 2010.

This brings us on to the early scores. As I have pointed out above, these are just markers until our new system is in place. As you have read below, is the case of Gareeee Numan. But he was not alone down the Villager on Sunday. As talk turned to next summers World Cup, the King of the Pixies was asked who he thought would lift the trophy. "Spain are my predicament!" was Sandros call. Worth a minimum of two points if you ask me. I will not publish a table until these scores are verified.
